Non – Urban Renewal Project (NURP)

The Non-Urban Renewal Project consisted of sixty-two site-inspired installations. The Mojave Desert centered project incorporated the manipulation of materials from abandoned deteriorating structures and addressed their potential for renewal as dwellings. Though temporary, the dwellings were tribute to the historical monuments of place and domesticity. The work is a commentary on issues of transience, ownership and gentrification in unique non- urban communities. Most of the structures were made in Wonder Valley, CA, with #59 including a thirteen hour live-in performance.
